Ulysses S. Grant- Grant was a Second Lieutenant when the war broke out. He served with Scott’s capture force and was considered a capable officer.
Franklin Pierce- He helped enlist men into the New Hampshire Volunteers and was himself a private.
Robert E. Lee- Not only did Robert E. Lee serve in the Mexican-American War, he seemingly almost won it single-handedly. He also became one of General Winfield Scott's most trusted junior officers.
Zachary Taylor-The Mexicans ordered him to establish a fortified base near the mouth of the Rio Grande River.
Don Carlos Buell- During the Mexican War he fought under Taylor and Scott, and was brevetted for bravery three times."
